                                    Creating Suspense

While searching for my genre I found out few ways to create a suspenseful scene. Here goes some following tricks to make a great suspense scene.

The Silhouette:
Lights can be a great factor in creating a suspenseful scene. They can be used to create a silhouettes, it is a film technique often used in film noir to increase the suspense. Its example can be that if the director wants the character to walk in the fog, the light is to be created behind the fog. This will create the shadow or a silhouette of an actor. This will keep the audience guessing about the character.

The Horror of it all:
While making the Horror film lighting is a key factor to add suspense. One of the main way is to have the main character main lit, but the background should be coverd in shadows. This helps to keep the audience on edge, to keep them unaware of when the monster or the killer will jump out. "The Blair Witch Project" used a single light to create an all verbal scene of suspense. Within the scene, the main character speaks directly to a camera she holds, apologizing for the situation she has created. As a tear falls from her eye, the right portion of her face is lit up, while the background rests in blackness. From the darkness, sounds are heard but nothing is seen. The total blackness of the background adds to the suspense of the scene.

Changing Light:
Using a coloured filter on your main light, and changing these fiters within a scene, can create unease and suspense within the audience. The movie natural born killers created many effects with the help of light.Toward the end of the film, Woody Harrelson, who plays a crazed killer, is being interviewed by Robert Downy Jr., who plays a Geraldo Rivera, like journalist. As the scene progresses, Downy begins to lose his temper, and the lighting on his face goes from normal to red. The audience isn't sure if Downy is going to snap or regain his calm. Within the scene, a red filter is used to place Downy's face in red light whenever he begins to lose his cool.
